RePower Wiscasset is an independent, grassroots community organization working for Wiscasset’s prosperity. We are not affiliated with the Wiscasset Town Government; however, we aim to foster a spirit of collaboration amongst all stakeholders.

Why Wiscasset?
Wiscasset, Maine, situated near the mouth of the Sheepscot River, has evolved from a key colonial maritime hub to a significant site for electricity generation. From the WWII era Mason Point Station to the now-closed Maine Yankee nuclear plant, Wiscasset remains directly connected to the grid and is an ideal site for power generation projects that require access to significant electrical infrastructure.

RePower Wiscasset is leading a community-driven effort to explore and develop opportunities for Wiscasset to host—and directly benefit from—sustainable power-generation initiatives.

Our vision is to harness the substantial existing electrical infrastructure, a legacy of the Maine Yankee era, to power a new wave of environmentally responsible projects that create local value: good jobs, economic resilience, and energy solutions that serve our residents and businesses.

At the same time, we are committed to preserving the breathtaking beauty and ecological health of the Back River waterfront—one of Maine’s most spectacular landscapes—ensuring that progress and preservation go hand in hand.
